I don't like to broadcast this fact, but I have to admit that there are some times when I show my class a movie. You know, like the days I have a sub. Or [hypothetically] report cards are supposed to go home at the end of the day, but I'm not quite finished. You know what I mean...
...Anyway, my favorite thing to show my class are episodes of Between the Lions. The focus is on vowel sounds and word blending, which my 2nd graders need! Also, there's a ton of reading opportunities. A lot of the text is highlighted on the screen so kids can read along. And they do!
I think the earlier seasons are the best ones. It seems like the new episodes cut out a lot of the lion/puppet storyline, which is what makes for fun viewing. Also, the new episodes don't show the Monkey Pop-Up Theater, which is what makes me really smile!
